I realized that I've never really tackled any big name Marvel characters outside of the X-men, since I've always been an X-nerd representing. And with all the great Iron Man figures out there, custom or retail, I never felt there was a gaping hole that needed to be filled. But like everybody else, I really enjoyed the recent Iron Man movie and felt inspired to try and make him. I thought his current Extremis armor (which is a pretty badass design) would be fun to do.

The base is my new favorite base figure, Chase Stevens from the TNA wrestling line, which I accumulated a small army after they went on clearance. I just love the proportions on that figure. And the scale nazi within me didn't want him to be short and to try and capture the feeling that somebody can actually fit in that suit. The armor was sculpted in Epoxy Putty or plumber's putty. As usual, the shoulderpads were created by drilling hole indentations on the front and back of the ball shoulder and then wrapping Epoxy Putty around it, to make sure the bicep swivel and the shoulder articulation is still moveable.

The mask I wanted to be removeable and sculpted it in Aves' Apoxie Sculpt. As before with making removeable sculpted pieces, I made sure the apoxie sculpt wouldn't stick to the face with my crappy solution of coating it with hair gel. And it's now my legitimate reason why a balding man like myself should have hair gel. Chase's hands were popped out and replaced with the hands of an Ultimate Doctor Octopus. I can't seem to take good pictures of it, but his armor came out super shiny.
