I've always wanted a good Daredevil figure in the 5 inch scale and Toybiz just never seemed to get around to making one. After seeing Xander Mc Guiness's excellent work on Custom Con 5 I realized that the perfect Daredevil base was literally right under my nose. The animated Silver Surfer figure provides good articulation and has the perfect build for ol' Hornhead.

The head was cut off and so were the hands and feet. The new hands and the feet come from the Spidey Classics Daredevil figure. I drilled holes in those appendages and pinned them into place with some thick plastic sprues. The enlarged feet from a bigger scale ended up fitting nicely because it was reminiscent of Joe Quesada's run on Marvel Knights.

The head is an original sculpt from Super Sculpey that I tried to base on his artwork as well. It's my first sculpt at this scale with this much detail and I was pleased with the results overall. The head was pinned down to the neck joint and then blended with epoxy putty

The belt and club holster was made from epoxy putty.  The figure was basically painted red and then airbrushed with black mixed with red paint to create the shading. Leaving only the gloves, boots and belt fully red.

To truly capture Joe Quesada's artwork I tried to create the swirling motions of his billy club with some extra long twisty ties.  The longest one I found came from the Xmen movie jet.  The billy clubs themselves were the Marvel Legends ones drilled to fit the twisty ties.

In the end it's a very satisying custom without any extraneous makeovers. I shoulda gone that extra mile and tried to create joints at the boot and glove line but I was just excited at using the pinning method in the first place.
