I had started this one exactly a year ago, and it's been one of those projects that just laid around even when it was so near completion. He came about from an intriguing need to use a TNA Chris Sabin figure. I liked the placement of his joints, and thought it would function great even with some sculpting. His legs however, I wasn't a big fan of. So I cut him off right above the waist swivel and replaced it with a Movie Mr. Fantastic. I cut off Mr. Fantastic above his waist swivel as well so when I placed Chris Sabin's torso it would still turn.
He was secured at the waist with Epoxy putty and then his costume details were sculpted with epoxy putty as well. I cut off Sabin's hands and replaced them with hands from the parts bin. The head was also removed and replaced with the sexy rugged visage of Viggo Mortenson from the Lord of The Rings line of action figures. I smoothed off his sculpted beard with krazy glue and sculpted the new hairdo. I gave him a scar on his face as a nod to the 12 inch gijoes. The braids came from a Street Fighter 2 Cammy. Then it was a matter of gluing crap on him, which is one of my favorite parts. The knives were from G.I. Joe figures, and the grenades were casts I made. The tassles on his pants were cut from a Street Fighter T. Hawk and glued on.
His faithful pet sidekick Freedom, is a repainted Redwing, the faithful pet sidekick of the Marvel Legends Falcon. I drilled tiny holes on Freedom's feet, plugged them with twisty ties, and drilled tiny holes on Spirit's left forearm to peg him in place. Spirit's been one of my favorite characters from the cartoon so I'm really happy with how he came out.
